Thomas Mueller has renewed his Bayern Munich contract until 2021 along with Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez, and Xabi Alonso will stay one more year until 2017, the Bundesliga champions said Friday. The news came amid big speculation that coach Pep Guardiola will not renew his deal beyond the season, with an announcement expected in the days after Saturday's last game of the year at Hanover. Mueller has spent his entire professional career at Bayern and has reportedly long been sought by English top clubs. His previous contract was until 2019, Boateng's past deal was until 2018, Martinez' until 2017, and that of the veteran Alonso until 2016. "We are happy to have signed these important players long-term," Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, adding that they "know how to win titles, including the Champions League." Mueller said: I am convinced that very successful football can be played at Bayern over the next years. I am proud and happy to have renewed my contract." Bayern have in the past months also renewed contracts with other key players such as David Alaba. | |||||
